    The brain and spinal cord are bathed in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).  CSF is continuously being made by the choroid plexus and epndymal lining of the ventricles (about 500 ml every 24 hours).  It continuously circulates but its velocity may be altered by changes in intracranial pressure as may occur during respiration, straining and changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

    The route of CSF circulation, as shown in Laboratory 3, is reviewed below.  CSF flows from the lateral ventricles, through the Foramen of Monro into the third ventricle, and through the cerebral aqueduct into the fourth ventricle.
