    Pathological enlargement (i.e. enlargement due to disease) may result from destruction or damage of parts of the brain during its development in utero or postnatally.  Enlargement of a ventricle into destroyed brain tissue is called porencephaly and can result in a porencephalic cyst which is shown in Case D below.
