    Infection, tumors, bleeding in the brain and other diseases can block CSF flow.  As pressure builds up, proximal to the blockage the ventricles enlarge.  This is called hydrocephalus (you may have heard of the lay term "water on the brain"). 

    Case E shows the brain of an adult patient who developed hydrocephalus at an early age.  The blockage that produced the hydrocephalus was probably due to a viral infection.
