Case 2.

A 45 year old carpenter came to you complaining of a "trembling right hand".  He related that his right hand was all right when he didn't do anything, but the moment he tried to hammer a nail his right hand "shook like crazy".  A neurological examination revealed the following:

  1. an ataxic gait, often tetering to the right;
  2. swaying back and forth when standing and the musculature on his right side was hypotonic;
  3. inability to pronate and supinate his right hand;
  4. he missed his nose when attempting to touch it with his right index finger;
  5. prominent right intentional tremor.
