This laboratory
is designed to help you identify specific anatomical landmarks on
the floor of the fourth ventricle and on the midsagittal surface
of the brain. Further, we will review the location of the
ventricles and the flow of cerebral spinal fluid from the lateral
ventricles to the subarachnoid space.
On the
following pages, you will first see pictures demonstrating the removal
of the cerebellum from the brainstem. This is done so that
you can see and identify structures on the floor of the fourth ventricle.
Next, you
will see a series of pictures showing you how to make the midsagittal
cut needed to see the medial surface of the brain.
Finally,
we will review the location of the ventricles and the direction
of flow of cerebral spinal fluid. At the end, you'll find
a link to the second in our series of clinical case studies which
highlights neurological disorders associated with the cerebral ventricular
system.
